About
Sandun Balasooriya
DevOps and cloud engineer in Liverpool, UK. I write AutomateSmith and I answer the mail.
AutomateSmith is a guide to AI tools and business automation for freelancers, small businesses, agencies and creators in the UK and the United States. The useful edge is not a roundup of logos. It is a setup you can actually run: an n8n workflow on a small server, a Make scenario that fails in a visible way, a Zapier task you can explain to a client.
What I work with
My day-to-day engineering is DevOps and cloud: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform and CI/CD. That is why the tutorials spend time on boring things that keep an automation alive: DNS, TLS, backups, environment variables, and what happens when a webhook retries.
The automation tools I write about most are n8n, Make and Zapier, plus the AI APIs people wire into them. I am not on a vendor's payroll. When a link can earn a commission, the page says so.
How a guide gets written
- I read the current official docs and the pricing page, and I link to them, because both change.
- I do not invent statistics, customer counts, uptime figures or testimonials.
- Where a price matters, the guide tells you to check the vendor. A number copied from last spring is worse than no number.
- If a step is easy to get wrong, it is in the guide. If I am unsure, I say so.
How the site is funded
AutomateSmith can earn money from affiliate links and, if you allow them, from ads. That does not buy a ranking. A vendor does not review these drafts. If a placement is ever paid for, rather than a normal affiliate link, the page will say so at the top. The full detail is on the affiliate disclosure and the privacy policy.
Corrections
If a command fails, a screen has moved, or a claim is out of date, email [email protected]. I would rather fix a guide than defend it. Corrected pages show a last updated date.
